Four Ships Planned to Replace Hatsuyuki Class

NEWTOWN, Conn. --- Japanese naval construction has now shifted away from the Murasame/Improved Murasame class to a new Japanese multirole destroyer, currently known as the 19DD (the designation indicating a destroyer ordered in the 19th year of Heisei - the reign of the current Emperor Akihito).
The first ship of this class has already been laid down, the second ordered, and two more are planned. Under normal circumstances, this would lead us to assume that the Murasame class was a dead issue.
However, it is rapidly becoming apparent that the differences between the Improved Murasame class and the new 19DD class are very limited indeed. In fact, an examination of the ship diagrams now becoming available shows that the changes between the two classes barely reach the level of being cosmetic.
Although the ships look quite different, this is simply the effect of angling the superstructure face to reduce radar cross-section and filling in the gap between the two superstructures so that missile launchers and boats on board can be moved under cover - again a radar cross-section reduction measure. Other than these limited changes and a switch in main gun from Italian to American 127mm weapons, the differences between the 19DD and the Improved Murasame class are less than those between the latter ship and the original Murasame class. It is therefore reasonable to regard the 19DD class as being a further extension of Murasame class production.
Current plans are for the construction of four 19DD class ships. Additional ships may be added to the building program since there are 11 Hatsuyuki class ships needing replacement. In due course, the name assigned to the lead ship of the 19DD class will be revealed and this report will be renamed to reflect this information.

เรือพิฆาตแบบ 19DD นั้นมีการออกแบบรูปทรงเรือแบบลดการตรวจจับจาก Radar ยาว160เมตร ระวางขับน้ำประมาณ 5,000ตัน ใช้เครื่องยนตร์ระบบ COGAG ทำความเร็วสูงสุดประมาณ30knots
อาวุธหลัก ติดตั้งปืนใหญ่เรือหลักแบบ Mk45 Mod4 ขนาด 127mm/62cal ซึ่งได้สิทธิบัตรในการผลิตเองในประเทศจากสหรัฐฯ
อาวุธปล่อยต่อต้านเรือผิวน้ำแบบ Type 90 ซึ่งผลิตเองในประเทศ 8ท่อยิง, แท่นยิงแนวดิ่ง Mk41 ติดตั้งอาวุธพื้นสู่อากาศแบบ RIM-161 ESSM และ RIM-66 SM-2 Standard
, Torpedo ต่อต้านเรือผิวน้ำ แท่นยิงแฝดสาม 2ระบบ และระบบปืนใหญ่กลป้องกันระยะประชิด Phalanx 20mm 2ระบบ
